On May 7th a jury went through all the submissions into the contest in order to select the best roasts. For this second edition of the contest, a total of 13 coffees from countries ranging from Brazil to Bolivia and Canada to Honduras were selected and then judged by this jury of professionals, gathered together for the occasion.
"Coffee tasting is subjective. In order to make the contest transparent and fair, we devised a standard judging format. This is why we chose the S.C.A.A.'s (Specialty Coffee Association of America) coffee-cupping and evaluating system which is industry-approved and acknowledged." explains jury chairman, Sevan Istanboulian.
The coffees were submitted in either the certified or regular categories. And the winners are:
CERTIFIED CATEGORY - GOLDEN BEAN: Kaloko, Mountain Thunder Coffee, Hawaï
REGULAR CATEGORY - GOLDEN BEAN: Panama Finca Hartmann, Mocassin Jo Coffee Roasters, Canada

The complete range of coffees from the competition were exhibited at the Coffee Cup space during the SIAL Canada Show. Mini-workshops were offered at this space by Technical Director at Cirqua Customized Water, S.C.A.A. member, and Q Grader, Mr. Skip Finley, about Golden Cup infusion techniques and the effects of water on food.
